EDITING/MIXING

Will you need additional editing/mixing?*

Due to our busy schedule, the National Opera Center cannot offer additional mixing or editing after your recording is completed without additional fees. If you do not have enough time in your session to finish mixing or editing, you may pay for the use of our Control Room and an engineer for $75/hour. Editing and mixing charges are estimated at 1 hour of editing per hour of recorded footage and are billed in increments of 1 hour. You do not need to be present during your mixing time, though you are certainly welcome to be present to offer your input. If time allows, and if the engineer is available, additional time can be added at the time of your rental. You may also schedule additional mixing/editing time at a later date for the same rate.


STORAGE DEVICES AND RECEIVING YOUR FILES

Within 2 weeks of your session, you will receive an e-mail with a link to your audio and (if applicable) video files. For files larger than 10 GB, you will need to provide storage to transfer the files. The National Opera Center does not provide storage media or online storage.

Flash drives/memory sticks or hard drives should be Mac OS-compatible. Please bring your storage device, labeled with your name and address, with you to your session and leave it with your engineer. If you are local, you may pick up the drive when the files are completed. If you are not local, we will send the media to you via FedEx Ground, provided that you make arrangements to pay for shipping ahead of time.

Please use the guidelines below when considering how much storage you will need. 

  • 1 hour of audio recording produces approximately 4 GB of session files.
  • 5-minute songs usually equal about 5–10 MB as an .MP3 and 500–1000 MB as a .WAV/.AIFF.
  • RAW video footage is equivalent to about 1–1.5 GB per minute.
  • Edited and trimmed footage is equivalent to about 1–1.5 GB per 10 minutes.

After your recording, you will receive your finished product within 2 weeks.


FINISHED PRODUCT

AUDIO RECORDING

After your audio recording and mixing are completed, you will receive the following as a finished product:

  • Mixed-down audio tracks in both .WAV and .MP3 formats. 
  • A copy of your audio session folder for archiving or for additional mixing at a later date (optional).

VIDEO RECORDING

After your video recording is completed, you will receive the following as a finished product:

  • A high-quality trimmed video recording of the session in both SD and HD formats.
  • Separate audio tracks in both .WAV and .MP3 formats.
  • Compressed full HD unedited, trimmed footage of your recording (optional).
  • Full RAW HD video files if you would like the full-quality files to take to an editor (optional).

Note that multi-camera video recordings are live-edited; thus, the product is one video, not complete raw footage of all camera angles. All files are recorded in RAW full-quality HD Apple ProRES format. We compress all files to a full quality HD format that is smaller and trim them to size at no additional charge. If you have enough time in your session for editing or if you pay for additional editing time, you will receive an edited HD copy of your video. You must provide your own storage media for video files larger than 10 GB.
